Faster than the speed of light

Unless you are living under a rock, big news rocked the world last year from the world of physics. Physicists in Cern ( the only reason why I took the report seriously) and Gran Sasso announced that they accelerated a neutrino to velocities higher than c ( speed of light). Headlines all over," Einstien rolling in his grave", "cornerstone of science challenged", " Physicists proven wrong" and all that crap. I had teachers and students asking me about it . There is no way in hell I am going to comment on a finding like that, only with the information given by a newspaper. I need numbers, I need empirical evidence. Not with some third party reference.

Firstly there is no cornerstone in science. We are not supposed to have rules that keep us in a box, what do they think this is? Mankind's self imposed rules that they force onto themselves????? This is an evolving field ( go ahead and scream creationalists). Only the simple rules stick. And even then, that's when we are dealing with classical physics. The minute we step into quantum mechanics the world ( if there is a world) gets turned on its head. Nothing is what it seems at this level/speed. What we understand from regular, earthly findings cannot be applied to that field too much. Its almost as if quantum mechanics points a finger at us, calls us morons and laughs hysterically. Everything we knew about this field was theoretical. Its only now we have the technology to begin to try to test these theories. Of course old rules will be broken. We are slowly doing what man's great brain was meant to do......... make science fiction a reality. The most abstract dreams are begining to sprout. It is not a time to lament about the sky falling ( which is what people reporting on this made the regular man think), it is a time to rejoice. There is more to do, more to discover ( with the help of billion dollar equipment by the way). Bring on the Nobel Prizes !!!!!

Alright, I just downloaded the research paper and gonna hit that bitch with a highlighter  this weekend and so me some maths ( might have to learn some new ones too......... YAY.......... and I not being sarcastic)
