Funny
Hmm I think I should make a page for stuff with my students yes !!!
Anyway, my form class is an all male class ( in a coed school). Generally they are well behaved boys (so to speak) and I really like them.
After spending an entire 30 mins with them for home room and I walked across half of the school compound one comes running after me...... He has ends of thorns in his hands from a hike they all went on Saturday gone........ and he wants me to take them out. LOL he doh have a mother? You cyah do it yourself? All kinda chupid answers I get. I was gonna leave him be, till he asked again.... had to try real hard not to buss out laughing.
Sigh !!!! FINE. I took out the safety pin I use for my shirt ( well endowed gals need extra pins for shirts lol) and started taking them out. While I am not short myself, a 6"3 boy will make anyone feel short. Next thing I know half of the class watching me poke and peel this boy hands. When I was finished , I opened my mouth "What allyuh doing here?", every man jack scramble back to their classroom. It was toooo funny I have to say.
Today ( 31 Jan), I was walking up the corridor after assembly and 7 boys from my class are coming from the other direction. They were out of ear shot, but I know what one said " Allyuh if we can't see miss, she wont see us" and all of them cover their eyes. The security guard laughed at them, the Vice Principal shook his head. You could expect that from form 1s but not a bunch of 16 and 17 yr olds......them too cute yes !!!!!!

First NEW blooms for the year
WE have lots of orchids in the yard. Some bloom all through the year while others are very seasonal. The weird weather already pushed one of our plants to bloom 4 months before time and this afternoon while picking shadon beni I saw that the Oncidium was already in full bloom.... a whole 2 months early.
Not too sure which type it is actually ( considering there are over 330 species of oncidium). There are several plants on the mango tree and when they all flower, there are hundreds of flowers spiking between the mango leaves. If someone did not know the difference between them they would think those were the mango flowers.
Now to wait for the Dendrobium to bloom. You dont have to see them to know they are flowering, you can smell them !!!!

Not doing my job
Hmph, after getting ratted on by that s.o.b. about not doing my job, I think i can agree with him.
One of my students is being harrassed by some of the children in her class and no longer feels safe there. Even her form teachers agree. So while holding this child , when she was crying , me and her form teacher discussed what to do with her. In the end the girl will spend all her free time in the lab with me. Ok fine enough, its not like the lab is ever empty of children. Two sessions later, her english teacher sent her to stay with me since they can't have her in the class at all. She had a choice of going with security or in the lobby area, but chose to come upstairs. You know what is the sad thing about all of this? She is hands down the best student in the form 5, she is potential scholarship material . Most pleasant and kinda silly child. And these other children have her too frightened to stay in her own class.
Apparently the only way of knowing that I am doing my job is to fill out paper work........... the teaching aspect has nothing to do with ( according to the MOE). And now I running a 'safe room' for a student ( and it is NOT the first time either)..... certainly NOT in my job description.
I could have chosen to spend my free time in the Air conditioned Staff room. I didn't Have to go for lunch when that girl was in the Chem lab. I didn't have to miss the birthday lunch with one of my closest friends on staff.
Mind you If any of those boys( who started this trouble) had decided to make a fuss in my class, I already made up my mind to inflict some serious harm........ if needed be. Considering, yet again, I was the only adult on the floor yesterday afternoon....and for once I am happy for my size..... I have no fear of getting hurt from them at all.
Hmph they call teachers lazy,.......... I got called out for being a poor teacher....a disappointment ( cause I dont kiss that man's ass)........someone who does not have the respect of their children( biggest laugh ever)..........Pshhh I dont care anymore. I do my job, I do more than my job and still think I could do more...... one can always do more.

I really should stop pointing the camera at the sky
LOL @ post name. Really I should.
Oh talk about being even dumber..... the fastest frame rate for the E520 is 250ms? Nahh...... it's actually 250us. That's too fast for a sunrise or set though...... gotta use that for bright sun.
Anyway between yesterday and today got some nice pics of rises and sets :-D

First pic was at 500 Frame rate
Rather than make a new post......... this is the sun setting around 5:30 pm on 29 Jan with a frame rate of 3500

Wayzz tears !!!
Random switching of channels on cable, and stop to watch something on NatGeo. Nothing about the program looks interesting, a narrator, some old men in different scenes talking. Then I hear two words and I know immediately what it is and there is no way I was switching.
O Rings
Only one topic will have a bunch of officials, engineers, a NatGeo program mentioning
O-rings........ thats the component that failed during the Challenger Shuttle launch. I have never ever, seen a single program about that disaster that doesn't reduce me to tears. No other event even comes close.
This program was about the people who made the choices to allow the launch that day ( January 27 1986). The people at Morton Thiokol knew it was too cold to launch. They pleaded with Nasa officials to scrub the launch. But in the end it was a business idea. The managers knew it, the engineers knew it. You could see the regret and hurt in their faces in the interview. They knew that money rules the world and could say nothing more to change the officials minds. A poorly acted, staged, re-enactment had to the saddest thing I've seen in a long while. Wow.. that was kinda surprising to me.
Funny how something that only took the lives of 7 people saddens me to that extent. Yeah yeah, all the natural phenomena ( i refuse to call them disasters) that result in loss of life is sad, wars, protests, accidents...they should have more of an impact, but no, Challenger beats them, even Columbia wasn't that sad. I think I'm really naive when it comes to it, but the outreach of science of an amazing thing. Mankind showing that they can do something good is an amazing thing.
Ignoring the ugliness of business and co-orporate interference, two things are guaranteed to make my heart soar for mankind( and surely tears) ....... Anything with space exploration and the Olympics.
ahhhh I think I have my first topic for the Geekdom page.... Challenger...... ohhh tomorrow is gonna be a long type hehe

Finally got it right
Geez, talk about feeling DUMB !!!
All the years I have been trying to catch clearer pics of the sun during late sunrises/ early sunsets, but there is too much light and it always overwhelms the reciever. So this morning, I was playing around...... again..... and I try sending the aperature speed way up. I DID NOT know it could go to 250........ or 4 ms per shutter release. OMG, that was the little bit of brain boost i needed yes.
The first one is with the zoom at a minimum, hence why the metalwork from the window in the way. Tomorrow I trying this with a wide lens ( weather permitting)
LOVING the sun pillar I caught.

1 min later......... the sun rises pretty fast
( In trinidad we do rotate at nearly 1640 km/hr anyway)
Ohhh opened up a wider range ( time wise) of shots I could take, YAY.......... sounds silly but if people could have seen my face when I got these shots........ Made my day ( well the first hr of it)...... ( update)....... lol that was short lived, got ready for work and ended up with a headache and some crazy nausea.. :-(Monday, 23 January 2012
More Sumi
While watching cricket tried my hand again with varying sucess.
Learning plenty things super fast....... such as I need some more brushes, need different type of paper( rice or watercolour paper), gotta practise more with light and shade ( I know some, but clearly not enough )
A really fast half face, and in an attempt to do some shadows the paper just absorbed all the ink.
Calligraphy really should not be done while sitting on the ground and with an unsteady hand LOL
Ok enough, like the distance trees, and shore on the left. Needed different paper, this one got soaked through and had to stop
Not too bad, wrong texture pattern for the bark........ that type of pattern is for a coconut tree dummy !!! LOL.....from an angle the tree did have depth....... so will definitely try this again.

First Sumi piece
Bought a Sumi-e set last week and this is the first actual piece I tried with the set.
It takes forever to get a dark colour, so I ended up cheating a little in some parts with black ink. I've seen dark dark pics of sumi art, so most likely my sticks aren't that great in quality. Need to make plenty plenty ink from the sticks to use the brushes properly, but I like it. Go try again today for sure ( well once I finish market, cleaning, cooking, ironing, sewing, bathing the dogs, watching cricket........... uhhhh on second though I will see LOL )......... update, hmm with endless rain, place COLD, I guess I do have time to paint, hehe !!!
Just a simple Bamboo painting ( lol sumi art of bamboo, the only thing less original is one of a koi or Mt. Fuji !!! )
Doh mind the weird flower, I was trying to get rid of the excess water from the stick and was kinda feathering it......... but not really.

Oh its a good morning
Out of yesterday's funk comes a glorious morning.
My brother is looking for music for a new video and comes and asks me what I think. Low and behold I knew them already ( I have all of Two steps from hell and X-ray dogs stuff), so I play him some of my faves. For the last 30 mins, nothing but the most EPIC music has been blasting from the pc speakers. Even my other brother came upstairs and the lamest sarcastic tone ever says " Allyuh sure you not playing that loud enough, I was not hearing it downstairs! "
Mmmm so good.

Road goes ever on
Hmmm 4 yrs ago, to the day, I got married. And in the 4 hrs since the end of the ceremony I already had 3 negatives for the day. Hmph, I should have taken a clue from that, since the next 18 months were not going to be any better.
Getting married, settling down , is so heavily entrenched in our brains its hard to think of anything else. You think that would be the easy part. That honeymoon year , what everyone so enjoys, I had no clue what a honeymoon 2 hrs was like.
Funny, I have been thinking about that whole day, getting married, how it went bad, how I have been too petrified to try again......... and not a single thought went to the way of the man I had married..... which is so typical for me, when I emotionally cut someone out from my life it is as they don't exist ( I have no idea how I developed that 'skill' ). Just goes to show how much the idea of just being married stays with a person....... and on the other hand I am happy I am not married to that man anymore. I can't even imagine the damage my heart and soul would have taken had I stayed.
All I can think about today is where I thought my life would have been today. It wasn't supposed to be like this ( yeah its confusing ). I've changed. The person I was before....... heck up to 3 years ago isn't here all the time and everyone notices. Even people I just met, sees two different people sometimes......... the old me and the new one ( music banishes her to the recesses of my mind, but with diminishing success). Just to say, I dont like the new one

Cold!!
No I'm not going to talk about being emotionally and mentally cold( hmm that would a day of typing). The place blasted cold. Yeah I am sure its probably around 20C but it was enough to wake me up.
I cyapped out and got up freezing. My hands were cold, my feet were ice( wet feet in AC were not that cold) , my arm that was exposed to the fan was killing me. I've been in colder nights... I remember a night time temp of 11C ( yeah at home too) ..........(and its not even the coldest time of night either) and slept through. What the jail? I know I dont like the cold, but this is plain ole ridiculous !!!
So I got up, microwaved a pair of socks and a track pants ( yeah really). Ohhh that felt sooo good.Feet still in socks actually and they gonna stay that way till daylight. Wow 20C, what go happen to my poor tail if/when I go somewhere that is actually cold? London perhaps, New York maybe.......... OMG it is 0C on top of Mt Roraima in the morning !!!! I go dead !!........ cool place to dead from freezing though, hehehe !!!
Anyway its off to bed, with two wool blankets.....OHH sooo good in nights like this.
I really meant for the tropics yes !!!!

Close but not close enough
In school, from my desk, I always see a red chested bird flying around in the field in the back. The bird has a nest about 75-100m away. Its a small bird, but from that distance you can still see the bright red chest and my camera lenses aren't powerful enough to get it. Yesterday I went to school with my E520 but only with the wide lens ( the zoom was left home). At the end of the day, walking down the stairs, there he was, a red breasted blackbird was about 15-20m. He was right there and that red was soo spectacular.
So I tried getting a good pic with my camera, he was still too far for a good shot. CURSES....... the zoom would have gotten him perfectly. I had my friend's T3i in another bag, I tried with that one two floors down and still it wasn't enough. Sigh. At least I could see that amazing colour that only the old girl( nature) could make.
A cropped , pixelated pic.
This is with max zoom using the lens I had

A fan? Really?
Got tons of posts to publish but I had to get this out first, lol.
The 5 of us home are all cricket fans. A good day of cricket leaves me without a workable voice for a couple of days. I am sure people hear us from halfway down the street.
Last night was the yet another episode in the eternal battle........ which is Trinidad vs Guyana . If trinidad plays alone, we support them, Guyana alone, we support them........... but Them against each other, its Dad vs the rest of us hehehe............ Is T&T all the way.
So last night me and the boys watching the game, Guyana batting, first wicket falls, we cheer. In comes Chanderpaul. If it was West Indies playing, we celebrating, but we get quiet, knowing his presence could give Trinidad a fight. 3 balls later he gets caught out. Wayyyyy we cheer as if Tendulkar, Jayasuriya,Kallis, anyone from the Australia team ( 1996-2004) got out.
I guess we know what it feels like when other crowds cheered whenever one of our greats got out, Lara, Gayle, God himself( Sir Viv) etc. Even in IPL we never cheered that much ( if at all) when one of 'our' players got out when playing for the other team. We would actually cheer them on still............ afterall iz still we boys !!!!
No way I can say that we aren't fans of the man. I can remember the first match Shiv played, the agony of him trying to reach his first hundred ( along with all the whole of the WI and the crowd that was in Kensington that day), him becoming the cornerstone of WI. The celebration to him outing last night was unexpected. I think we all watch each other and thought," What the hell?" hehehe.
Doh worry boy, we love you forever ( not gonna turn on you when things get bad like how people turn on Lara and Gayle...... me eh care Lara is the man no matter what anyone says). But when it comes to playing against Trindad, the faster the person back in the player lounge, the better, hehehe..... it be country first !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pics from today
Carried a single charcoal stick and a sketch pad to school. I was doodling around, made my own tortillion, so was seeing what I could get out of it.
I pulled a random image out of my head and it came out pretty good and in no time at all ( less than 10 mins) Rather than leave it as a half face, I just sketched the other side of the face. I paid no attention to make it symmetrical. In the end it looked like an anime draft ( didn't even know I could do that )
Am up real early now ( alarm is for 5:45), early enough for sunrises. But I didn't get the camera till it was very up
Oh this afternoon there was a spectacular sunset, No way that was escaping the camera

Opposites attract?
Ahhh the old adage of opposites attracting.
Purists will stick to it meaning boy and girl attracting, since you can't get anymore opposite than that. Sorry to say but I dont see it working that way. Today its not just about being opposite. Everyone knows that I stick to my motto of ' Love is Love', no matter who you are, your background, your sex. Anyone got a problem with that, then........ well whatever I dont give a crap. Too many people see love being that of a carnal nature. How dare they do that? Love stretches across the universe. If two people can find it, then celebrate it, be happy that it was found, smile and gaze at its beauty. How dare you put your rules, rules that man made, on it? You have no right, no matter how much you try to convince yourself of that.......... the You I speak of is people, not any one person.
Ah I getting off track AGAIN, lol
Today its not about being opposite....... how can two people that are complete opposites ever spend a lifetime together? Opposite is the wrong word...... I think Complementary is a better word.
Two different sides come together to make a whole. Some aspects will be so different that they seem opposite. Those differences make up for what each other lacks. Externally it may be impossible to see. It is up to the two people. They should know or at least find out how well that person works with them. Dont ignore red flags. dont see things that aren't there, Obey your 'gut'. You know when something is comfortable, when it feels right, when it scares the living daylights out of you (.....you are terrified to lose it or you know what it is and even the thought of losing it prevents you from taking it... wow I dont think words can describe it...)
This can happen for friends and lovers. Lol I had to go through a stupid marriage to realise that. Hmph !!!
Oh well !!!
Things that make you go HUH?
First day of school and it seems as if these children dropped 20 IQ points , I swear. Rather than go through the sheer brain dead-ness, how bout the funniest thing. My form 4 class, one of the best students in the class asks
" Miss, where the sun does go in the night?" I watched the poor girl and had to leave the room. OMFG !!!! Seriously???? I gather myself and go back into the lab...... next question
" So maybe they could go to the sun in the night since it wont be so hot"
I had to fight hard not to break out laughing. Poor thing. I will explain today, just couldn't do it yesterday.
Ohhhh another reason why teachers need to drink serious alcohol...... Allyuh 2 divide by 10? ......... silence. Oh God help me !!!!

Grey's Anatomy Music Event - The Story (Full Song)
Am in love with this song. Got no one dedicate it to ( like most people would think when you hear/read a girl loving a mushy song), but it builds and fills a heart with joy.... well imo that is :-D

Back to work/school/whatever
LOL, I must be mad. All the time I going on about wanting to go back to work/school ( which is the same thing), and now that school is opening tomorrow, I dont want to go.
Probably cause I realizing the sheer amount of work that has to be done this term. Wow. Second term in trinidad secondary schools is always thunder. Finishing syllabus, finishing SBAs, Oh how I wished caffiene worked on my sometimes.
Just gotta keep track of what I got to do and set deadlines. Ahh its good I left FB yes, plenty more time at the pc without distractions ( now to fight the youtube demon). Maybe should note what I have to do ,per week, here........ yeah thats a good idea.... I lose paper too often. Yes, good idea, will post that up tomorrow yes.
Hmmm I hope EFCL fixed the lab. I hope my labs are usable. I go walk out of the school if they not ready to use by Tuesday. I swear. Walk out cussing. That shit from last term CANNOT happen again. Ohhhh hell no !!!!

Staring at the sky again
Up early to pack away meat for the dogs ( seriously I was up at 3:30 am with bags of bloody ground meat)
Go upstairs and I ketch a pretty gorgeous Moonset ( almost identical to a moonrise actually)
Since I was up anyway and posting the other post, why not wait for a sunrise in the meantime. Got some Nice pics.

Like and Love
Was watching Tv yesterday and a conversation between a mother and daughter came up.
" I love you, but I just dont like you very much"
Funny eh !!, when it comes to close family we love them first and then grow to like them. I can personally attest to that. Of course I love my family, but as we all grew up I became friends with some and just remained 'family' with others.
When it comes to 'strangers' or 'outsiders' we have to like them first before we can love them. The time frame is different depending on the person. It is possible to like and then love someone in a day. Others it will take you a lifetime to know that you love them ( love in any form or fashion..... afterall Love is Love as I like to say) . The sad thing about the latter point is that, it is usually too late when you do realise when you love someone.
Thankfully by the age of 25 I knew who I loved on this planet ( as in friends and family). I have some friends that I will always hold extremely close to my heart , forever. Whether they feel the same way, meh, I really dont care anymore..... but I think they know somewhat. That list will grow VERY VERY slowly though, lol, but it will. I think there is a couple on a short list..... not that I have a list or anything ( woman you starting to ramble)
Argh, going off topic slightly..... I wonder if that is the reason why so many people abandon family for other persons in the name of love? It sounds right, the natural progression is meet, like, love ( and then In-love), right? It's why that emotion is that intense. Baring parental love, I dont think there is anything stronger. Heck even parental love doesn't rival it at times.......... think about it, Name a love story ( with the meet-like-love background) and Name a story of love involving a parent and child.......... chances are you can think of several of the first kind before the latter.
It's what we spend our entire lives looking for. I think we need both types of love in our lives. That love we've had from birth and the love that seems to transcend several lifetimes ( well the lucky ones actually find those). Some can and do live with only one of the two. But we are built for both...... our brain is large enough ( dont fool yourself, you feel with your brain, no emotion comes from the heart.......... Sigh, thats a thought for another day or even time )

2012
Ah 2012 has been declared the Year of Sustainable energy for all.
Plenty ideas in head for school and personal use. Gotta put them down somewhere ( here is as good a place)
School - make a solar cooker, solar still,
Projects for students: something on sustainable energy ( gotta brain storm that one)
Home: House shutting down for 3 hrs for earth hour, grow veges at home, do a proper compost.
Hmmmm what else????

How To Train Your Dragon Soundtrack 01 - This is Berk
Am sooo in love with this, full of motion, emotion, one part I hold my breath..... well actually I inhale and just plain forget to exhale till its done.
Yesterday's work
I really did shut down yesterday, put on some music and soared with ' This is Berk' and dived with ' If you were mine'..... somewhere between ' False King' and...uhhh..... ok I think that is where my memory ends. I fell asleep.
I did take pics of some of what I did yesterday. I wont post all, because I already envisioned a set to post and some would fall into that category, so rather than post twice.
Firstly, Jan 4 sunset. It was overcast, but there was still something to capture.
Here be the candle and it's 'twin' that inspired my flood yesterday. I think that the set will be called 'Twin'
And finally the state of my 'work area'...... which is on the ground next to my bed

What your brain makes you hear
It has been documented that I have a fair degree of hearing loss. If two people talk to me at the same time, I cannot register what they are saying.
Then how come at 2am, on a cold January morning ( well cold by Trinidad reckoning) I can be woken by a single puppy crying in the night. Where is this puppy? I have no clue, sounds like its in one of the new houses in front......... which is over 100m away.
Last month when the neighbour's dalmation had puppies, I could actually hear the newborns from my room. I've always been able to hear puppies well, but that was on a WHOLE other level. LMAO.

Seriously!?!?!!
I call my mother to show her what I have done ( since she is a painter herself) and she comments that I have a sudden burst of energy.... Well Duh woman !!! I think
She goes on to say that I should find something to channel this new found energy into. ... SERIOUSLY?!?!?!
I watch her. What the hell did she think I was doing? Why was my floor littered with coloured pages? I was idle? I didn't know what to do with my time?
I know exactly what she means.......... go back to school, get out of that dead end teaching job.
I shut the fuck down immediately. We have very, very few things in common and art is one of them. You mean to tell me the ONE thing we could have actually gone through together , she had to ripe it apart like that? She made a face when I said that I got LOTS more to do.
It's damned if you do, damned if you dont in this house.
wow way to kill a run !!
:-(

explosion
Wow, did 10 pieces today. Its as if a monster has consumed my brain.
I was lying on my bed just staring out into nothing really when I looked at my glade candle . After a few seconds I realized I was looking at two flames. A reflection of the primary flame was being made by the back of the glass holder. It was kinda fun to watch two flames dance around each other. Not fun, damn cool !!
So I pushed aside the initial draft of a peacock feather I had drawn and tore out a page from my sketch book. First was the candle and it's twin flames, then came the 2 lotuses, peacocks, and eye..... I could not stop.
My white floor is now full of coloured dust. My fingers are black( beneath it is stained red from the henna I used this morning). I should avoid my white bed sheets before I colourise them also. hehe
The day isn't done as yet, who knows what I will have by the end of it....... stay tuned !!!!......wait a minute... who on earth am I talking to? LOL

Waiting for stars
Supposed to be a meteor shower early this morning, so I got up to see what I could see. But alas, there were clouds just in the area where they could be seen. This morning would have been perfect to see Perseids or Geminids but not Quadrantids !!! Sigh
Anyway, I was up so why not do something. I have a big mounted canvas board ( 30 x 50cm).... ok its not That large..... So I took some henna and gave it a try. Came out pretty good, except that henna is unforgiving on blank paper. Once its down, its down, nothing you can do about it. Came out pretty good. A little lopsided. How that happened? I have no clue. LOL
Next is a first piece of abstract I can really say I've done. A little backstory. When you close your eyes you can 'see' residual images either from your retina having been burnt a little, or your optic nerve still sending information to your brain. Usually I have pretty normal ( for me) images I see. But about a month ago I started seeing this ( below) . Very new and very weird. The only time I see it, is when I cam completely relaxed and maybe listening to X-ray dog ( LOL). I tried to get it down, its only after I realized it was more green and purple than just purple. The image rotates and pulsates, such that the larger section shrinks to a line and a line swells out to the shape of the bottom arm.
I call it Extinction
Might I add that its my FIRST full pastel piece..... now i realise I should have used a different medium to draw on. Learning curve, its going to be steep and FAST. :-D

Night.. oh glorious night
Ah this vacation has confirmed how much I love the night.
Its quiet, it is cool. It is simply gorgeous. Sometimes its sad to go to sleep and miss it. I used to dislike the dusk. It meant that another day was finished and life was still the same. Nothing had changed..... While those thoughts still echo through my head, a louder voice takes over. Its night time. My new favourite time of the 'day' ...........
To stand by a window and stare out into the semi darkness. To sit by the pool and stare at the stars above. Wow !! Dont know why I missed that all of these years. That wont happen this year. NO sir, it wont.
Hmmm I wonder how long it would take me to wish I had someone to share it with?

New year, new endeavours
Getting back into art full this year. Will try to upload something new as often as possible.
Hopefully in a few months I can look back and say " Damn , I was awful!'
