Was watching Tv yesterday and a conversation between a mother and daughter came up.
" I love you, but I just dont like you very much"
Funny eh !!, when it comes to close family we love them first and then grow to like them. I can personally attest to that. Of course I love my family, but as we all grew up I became friends with some and just remained 'family' with others.
When it comes to 'strangers' or 'outsiders' we have to like them first before we can love them. The time frame is different depending on the person. It is possible to like and then love someone in a day. Others it will take you a lifetime to know that you love them ( love in any form or fashion..... afterall Love is Love as I like to say) . The sad thing about the latter point is that, it is usually too late when you do realise when you love someone.
Thankfully by the age of 25 I knew who I loved on this planet ( as in friends and family). I have some friends that I will always hold extremely close to my heart , forever. Whether they feel the same way, meh, I really dont care anymore..... but I think they know somewhat. That list will grow VERY VERY slowly though, lol, but it will. I think there is a couple on a short list..... not that I have a list or anything ( woman you starting to ramble)
Argh, going off topic slightly..... I wonder if that is the reason why so many people abandon family for other persons in the name of love? It sounds right, the natural progression is meet, like, love ( and then In-love), right? It's why that emotion is that intense. Baring parental love, I dont think there is anything stronger. Heck even parental love doesn't rival it at times.......... think about it, Name a love story ( with the meet-like-love background) and Name a story of love involving a parent and child.......... chances are you can think of several of the first kind before the latter.
It's what we spend our entire lives looking for. I think we need both types of love in our lives. That love we've had from birth and the love that seems to transcend several lifetimes ( well the lucky ones actually find those). Some can and do live with only one of the two. But we are built for both...... our brain is large enough ( dont fool yourself, you feel with your brain, no emotion comes from the heart.......... Sigh, thats a thought for another day or even time )
